Welcome to OxVox1

Welcome!

If you’re looking to lower the amount of oxalates in the diet of yourself or someone you love, you’ve come to the right place!

The very first thing you should do is sign into Yahoo (create an account here if you don’t already have one), and apply to become a member of the Trying Low Oxalates Yahoo Group.

Why? Because, simply put, it is the best interactive resource about the low oxalate diet available. While I am striving very hard to make OxVox the very best website about oxalates and the low oxalate diet, the fact is that it is a static site. While you are welcome to ask questions here, I only get around to checking in and answering them maybe once every day or three. And even when I do, the answer you get will be, necessarily, very one-sided.

The enormous advantage that you’ll have by joining the Trying Low Oxalates (TLO) group is that you can post to the group and ask a question. From there you’ll likely receive several (and perhaps a multitude!) of answers and viewpoints. While this might not at first seem that important, trust me…as soon as you get going on the low oxalate diet, you’ll discover just how valuable that sort of interaction and guidance is! So I encourage you, in the strongest possible terms, to head over there and apply to the group right now. Then come back – it can take up to 24 hours to be approved for membership, and there are lots of resources here to keep you busy in the interim.

For example, I strongly suggest signing up for my email list at the top right of the screen. This will enable you to stay up-to-date with the latest content and research I post to the site, as well as receiving occasional tips and information not found on the site about how to start the low oxalate diet off right!

Once you’re signed up and in the know, check out the pages listed below. They’re laid out to be read more or less in order, but I understand if you’re like me and tend to wander a bit. :) Just bookmark this page so you can come back and eventually hit them all.

What Are Oxalates – A bit of background on the generic term “oxalates” and why they can be damaging to health.

Why Join the TLO Group? – In case you need a nudge to join the Trying Low Oxalates group. Also includes a section on How to Join, if you’re having trouble finding the right buttons to push!

Low Oxalate Diet Basics – The very first things to know if you’re going to attempt the low oxalate diet.

Glossary – For when you get approved to the TLO group, this is the resource I wish I’d had when I first signed up! Oxalates have a language all their own; this page will help you decode it.

How to Use the TLO Spreadsheets – Once you’re cleared for takeoff at the TLO group, here’s the basics of how to read and use their food list spreadsheets.

If you’re lucky, the low oxalate diet will allow your body to start dumping oxalates. Read this article to get a handle on what dumping is, and a couple ideas on what to do about it.

Supplements – Much is made of the importance of supplements on the low oxalate diet. Find out here what all the hullabaloo is about, and whether or not you actually need them.

Where to Find Low Oxalate Recipes – Since humans are prone to getting bored when we eat the same thing in the same way, these resources will help you stick with the low oxalate diet for the long haul!

Hi Karla! Thank you so much for dropping by!

For everyone else reading this: Karla is our resident superwoman/chef on the TLO group. If you join for no other reason, do it to get at her recipes. They’re amazing, just like her!

      Hi J,

Just wanted to let you know that I have shortened your name for privacy purposes. As you may have noticed, your email does not appear on any of my pages (thankfully, that’s not how WordPress works!).

      Have a great weekend,

HAVE HAD SORE RED TOE HAVE HAD TO DOSES OF MEDICINE BUT STILL HAVE SAME RESULTS. CAN THIS BE CAUSED BY HIGH OXALATES

    • admin says:

      Hi Bonnie,

I’ll be honest, I have no idea whether your sore toe might be being caused by oxalates. Numerous aches and pains all over folks bodies have been attributed to oxalates, but since there are no definitive tests yet to tell whether or not that is the real cause, we are unfortunately just guessing. You mention two doses of medicine; what medicine were you given? Or maybe I should ask, what does your doctor think may be causing your sore toe?
